Charles Cumberworth was a sculptor born in Verdun in 1811, and died in Paris in 1852. A pupil of Jean-Jacques Pradier at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris (1829), he was awarded bronze objects, vases, pendulums and candelabra. His most famous sculptures are L’Amour de soi (La Rochelle Museum of Fine Arts), Lesbie et son moineau (Paris, Musée du Louvre) and Paul et Virginie (1851). From 1833-1848, he exhibited at the Paris Salon.
